Adopt

Thank you for being interested in adopting a rescue pet.

A rescue pet isn’t the same as getting a new puppy or kitten, they will often take longer to settle in and as with any pet it is important to consider fully that this is a life-long commitment, that may be for 15 years or longer – but don’t let us put you off, we believe successful adoptions are based on honesty, understanding and realistic expectations. We want to find the right home for the pet and the right pet for your home.

Appreciate their background

Please appreciate that rescue pets of all ages (and backgrounds) will take time to settle into a new home and some will adapt more quickly than others. In the time leading up to adoption, rescue animals may have had to cope with a number of trauma or significant changes including losing previous homes & families, kennels, foster homes, living on the streets and having to undergo potentially traumatic vet visits. Some of our rescues may have a little or no background and might have had to survived alone on the streets or experienced abuse before being rescued.

A rescue pet, especially a dog can take months to truly settle in and may display undesirable behaviours such as chewing, barking and have toilet training issues, especially during the first few weeks. This may result from never having had toilet training or might result from having been kept in kennels, or foster homes with permanent access to the outside.

They are likely to require a great deal of patience, and need training and socialisation – but we believe a rescue dog is truly worth it and the bond gained through this close working can run very deep.
